tert-butyl peroxide-2-ethylhexanoate (TBPO, CAS: 3006-82-4) is a colorless and transparent ester-based organic peroxide, commonly known as initiator OT. It is frequently used as a polymerization initiator in the polymerization of polyethylene, polypropylene, and acrylate monomers. It is also used in rubber and paints. It is soluble in hydrocarbons but insoluble in water, and has a low decomposition temperature and flash point, making it an important chemical additive.
Wide temperature range application: Suitable for medium- and high-temperature polymerization, such as styrene polymerization, unsaturated polyester curing, and crosslinking reactions.
Highly efficient free radical source: As a monoperoxide, it provides a continuous supply of free radicals, promoting polymerization reactions.
Reduced residual monomer: Helps reduce the monomer content in the final polymer, improving product quality.
Environmentally friendly: Does not produce aromatic decomposition products, beneficial to product purity.
Stability: Exhibits good thermal stability, remaining stable even at high temperatures, facilitating global transportation and storage.
Versatility: Can be used alone or in combination with other initiators (such as BPO) to meet different process requirements.

This product is a commonly used polymerization initiator for ethylene polymerization, suitable for both batch and tubular processes. It is also a polymerization initiator for acrylates and methacrylates, with an applicable temperature range of 80-150℃.
This product can be used to initiate the polymerization of styrene, exhibiting superior activity compared to BPO. It can also be used in combination with peroxides such as TBPB and TBEC. It is also an important initiator for vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymers.
It is a high-temperature curing agent for unsaturated polyesters, with a curing temperature of 120-160℃. It is preferred for UP (upper pressure molding) curing processes (DMC, BMC), and can also react with cobalt-based accelerators for air-drying paints and filament winding processes at 60℃.
TBPO is an initiator for polymerization of (meth)acrylates and ethylene. Initiator used for curing unsaturated polyester, vinylester and acrylic thermosetting resins.
Polymerization: Used for the polymerization of monomers such as styrene (SM).
Curing: Curing of unsaturated polyester resins (UP).
Crosslinking: Crosslinking of polymers (such as EVA).
