tert-butyl peroxide (TBPB) is a highly efficient, moderately reactive free radical initiator. It is mainly used in the polymerization of monomers such as styrene and acrylic acid, as well as the curing of unsaturated polyesters. The product exhibits excellent thermal stability and pure decomposition products, making it an ideal choice for resin synthesis and high-temperature curing processes.

Product Advantage

The core advantages of tert-butyl peroxide (TBPB) are as follows:
  • Moderate reactivity: Its relatively high decomposition temperature (approximately 100℃) makes it suitable for processes requiring high-temperature initiation or curing, such as the thermosetting of unsaturated polyesters.

  • Excellent performance: The decomposition products are volatile small molecules, leaving almost no residue. The resulting polymers or resins have high purity, are less prone to discoloration, and exhibit minimal yellowing.

  • Process safety: Compared to low-reactivity initiators, it is more stable at room temperature, facilitating safe storage and transportation.

  • Precise application: As a single-component initiator, its decomposition behavior is stable and predictable, allowing for precise control of the polymerization rate and process.

Product Uses

  • An excellent medium-temperature initiator for low-density polyethylene (LDPE), primarily used in tubular or batch processes.

  • The most commonly used initiator for styrene or styrene copolymers.

  • A high-temperature curing agent for unsaturated polyesters. It can also be used in the polymerization of vinyl acetate.

  • A good vulcanizing agent for most rubbers (except isobutylene rubbers).

Product Operate Guide

  • Polymerization of acrylates and methacrylates: TBPB can be used as an initiator for solution polymerization or copolymerization of acrylates and methacrylates within a temperature range of 100-170℃, especially for coating production.

  • TBPB can also be used as an initiator for bulk and suspension polymerization or copolymerization of acrylates and methacrylates.
