Di-tert-butyl peroxide, also known as DTBP, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C8H18O2. It is a colorless liquid that is miscible with organic solvents such as benzene and petroleum ether, but insoluble in water. It is mainly used as an initiator for synthetic resins, a photopolymerization sensitizer, a rubber vulcanizing agent, and a diesel ignition accelerator. It is also used in organic synthesis.
The advantages of di-tert-butyl peroxide (DTBP) lie in its status as a highly efficient organic peroxide, which has wide applications in polymer synthesis (initiator, vulcanizing agent), fuels (diesel cetane number improvement, HCCI), and organic synthesis.
It has excellent initiation ability and controllable decomposition temperature, which can promote reactions and improve performance.
It is also an important intermediate for many antioxidants and chemicals, with great market application potential, especially in improving diesel engine performance and manufacturing high-performance resins.
The core value of DTBP lies in its ability to provide a controllable source of free radicals, accelerate chemical reactions, improve material properties (such as increasing polymer strength and improving fuel combustion), and achieve performance optimization and environmental improvement in the energy and chemical industries.

Used as a polymerization initiator for vinyl and diene monomers, with a recommended crosslinking temperature range of 180-240℃. It is a commonly used initiator in high-pressure polyethylene polymerization processes such as the stencil and batch reactor methods, with a crosslinking temperature range of 240-280℃.
A high-temperature curing agent for unsaturated polyesters.
A vulcanizing agent for diene rubbers, suitable for vulcanizing thick rubber products. It exhibits good tensile strength, elongation, and resistance to compression and permanent deformation. FDA approved, it is suitable for vulcanizing most rubbers, polyurethane elastomers, and silicone rubbers, yielding white and various brightly colored rubber products.
Used in the high-speed polypropylene spinning (polypropylene fiber) industry as a molecular weight regulator (used in the production of cooling masterbatches). It features a narrow molecular weight distribution, high melt index, and uniform spinning.
It is an excellent degrading agent used in polypropylene modification. Adding this product to polypropylene can produce rheology-controlled polypropylene, improve fluidity, enable rapid molding of polypropylene, and reduce deformation during molding. Modified polypropylene can be made into film materials.
Used as an oil additive and a pour point depressant for transformer oil.
